How create a template and render it on Carbone Studio?

Create a template on Carbone studio is easy. You need LibreOffice or Microsoft word and a free account on Carbone Studio.

Create a template

You can create writer document, calc spreadsheet or event presentation.

Open libre office or Microsoft word

Choose the type of document you want.

Design your template

Then use your editor functionnalities to design it. You can add header, footer… Follow this documentation to add dynamic content with JSON data.

Save you document

You just need to save your document and your template is ready to be rendered

Upload your template in the studio

You can create a free account on Carbone Account. Once your are login, go on Carbone Studio.

Now let's add your new template. Click in the menu on Report and then New. A modal will appear:

In this first news edition, we are celebrating and sharing with you a major Carbone update, version 3.0.0 🎉 As always, the Carbone team is focusing on stability, simplicity, and performance, that's why we are bringing you this new version. How to insert a page break without having a blank page at the end of the report?

Inserting page break without an extra blank page

To insert a page break between each repetition section, you have two options:

A - Insert a page break within the repetition section
B - Or use paragraph options of Word to insert a page break before each new paragraph

Example A - page break

||| With the first option, the page break is repeated by the loop. So the last repeated part will contain a page break, which generates a blank page at the end of the report.

To avoid the blank page at the end of the report, we recommend to insert a page break before the first paragraph.

Carbone Style Guide

This is the official style guide for Carbone specific code. If you use Carbone in a project, it’s a great reference to avoid errors, bikeshedding, and anti-patterns.

These rules help prevent errors, so learn and abide by them at all costs. Exceptions may exist, but should be very rare and only be made by those with expert knowledge of Carbone. The following checklist avoids unexpected behaviors, avoids creating a corrupted document or avoids not printed values on the generated report.

Check if, each loops begin with [i] and end with [i+1], such as {d.fruits[i].name}{d.fruits[i+1].name}.
Check if, each showBegin is followed by showEnd, or hideBegin with hideEnd.
Check if, every Carbone markers path is defined on the JSON dataset. Otherwise, values and lists will not be printed on the report.
Check if, the variable type you are printing is the expected one, if it is an Array (a.k.a. table), don't forget to use [i] and [i+1] to loop the whole table or use [i=0] to print only the first element.
Check if different loops are not mixed. The following example misbehaves the Carbone rendering and will generate a corrupted document : First loop: {d.fruits[i].name}{d.vegetables[i].name}{d.fruits[i+1].name} Second loop: {d.vegetables[i+1].name}. It should be: `First loop: {d.fruits[i].name}{d.fruits[i+1].name}, Second loop: {d.vegetables[i].name}{d.vegetables[i+

Update August 2021

During the incident, our high available architecture managed the event pretty well, and our DNS fallback succeed. However, the propagation was too slow for users in Australia and New Zealand. Consequently,  We are strengthening our architecture, automation and notification. We are working on the following elements: 

Migrate to a new DNS provider with a much faster DNS response and propagation time.
Deploy new servers in new locations (Singapore, Australia and more).
Setting up a notification system by phone call and SMS

A final update is coming with all details and actions since the incident.

The 10th of March 2021 was a particular day for us, and for other companies, especially our cloud provider OVH which experienced a major fire. It has affected several major online services, including the French government.
